Signs Your Heating Unit Needs a Tune Up

If you are like most people you simply trust that your furnace or heating unit is simply going to work. In fact, most people do not give their furnace a second thought until it stops working and they have to call up a HVAC guy. At this point the repair is likely going to be expensive, but if you are a little bit diligent before the unit quits working you can save yourself a lot of money. This is due to the fact that most heating units will give off a few warning signs that they need a tune-up. Catch any of these and you can get one of our HVAC guys out for much less than the cost of replacing the entire unit.

The number one warning sign that a heating unit needs looked at is if starts to make odd noises. You will always hear the hum of a furnace in the background of your home, but if you start to hear noises coming from it outside of the hum then you need to call us up so we can send someone out. Banging, groaning, whining, or any similar sounds are all often an indication that a furnace has a loose belt or an ignition problem. When caught quickly usually it is an easy repair.

Another problem is if you see a yellow pilot light in place of the usual blue pilot light. A blue light is when the gas is balanced and everything is running correctly, but a yellow light means that the gases are not properly balanced and can actually be a very dangerous problem. If you notice this it is important to call a HVAC expert right away for help correcting the issue.

Finally, if you start to notice that your electricity bill is higher than it usually is seasonally you might want to get a professional HVAC agent out to take a look. There are usually a handful of different reasons why an electricity bill goes up when the furnace usage stays the same and you will need a professional to discern which one it is.
